For centuries, Hunters have worked from the shadows to protect the world against Rev’ers. Ordinary people would call them demons but the Hunters knew these creatures for what they were. They weren’t possessed by devils, nor were they demons spat out of hell. They were just creatures from a world not found in any science books. No one on Earth knew of their existence, and the Hunters kept the balance.

L’histoire se passe Au Japon, Des démons venus d’un autre monde et invisibles pour la plupart des humains menacent la tranquillité des citoyens humains, ce sont les Rev’ers. Les hunters sont des combattants d’élite formés pour combattre les Rev’ers et préserver la paix de l’humanité. On fait appel à eux quand des phénomènes paranormaux apparaissent, ils neutralisent les démons et les renvoient dans leur monde.
Mafuyu a découvert tôt qu’il voyait des êtres invisibles aux yeux de autres. Rejeté par ses propres parents qui le pense fou, il s’enfuit et est recueilli par Zen qui le formera à combattre ces démons qu’il est capable de voir. Mais quand les Rev’ers deviennent de plus en plus nombreux et intelligents, les hunters se préparent à une guerre entre les 2 mondes. Pour vaincre les Rev’ers, Mafuyu va s’associer à Mirai, un ancien hunter …
Le Début du roman est lent mais ça ne m’a pas dérangé car on découvre les personnage et l’univers de l’intrigue. J’appréciais beaucoup la lecture mais j’ai commencé a vraiment accrocher quand on découvre le passé et la jeunesse de Bezaleel, le plus dangereux des Rev’ers. J’ai adoré les descriptions de son monde, découvrir comment la société s’organise. L’histoire de Mirai est très triste et m’a mis les larmes aux yeux quelques fois mais elle apporte une dimension émotive au roman.
Mafuyu est attachant. J’ai bien aimé le lien qui se crée entre Mafuyu et Mirai mais j’ai trouvé que leur amitié était trop soudaine.
Ce livre est de la pure Urban fantasy, ça change de ce que j’ai l’habitude de lire. Il y a beaucoup d’action et de combats, façon animé japonais.
Je n’ai pas accroché plus que ça au style d’écriture mais je ne suis pas une spécialiste des lectures en Anglais.
Le titre des chapitres n’est pas très recherché et ça m’a un peu dérangé, mais bon, c’est un détail.
Pour résumer: une très bonne lecture bourrée d’action.

The story takes place in modern Japan. Demons called the Rev’ers, invisible for regular humans have breached our world and threaten the peace. The hunters are elite warriors who are able to see the Rev’ers and are trained to defeat and send them back to their world. Mafuyu is a teenager who discovered in his young age that he can see things no-one else can. Rejected by his own parents, he escapes and meets Zen, a hunter who will take him in and train him to fight the Rev’ers. When the Rev’ers start to accumulate and become more difficult to defeat, the hunters have to prepare for war in order to protect their world and his citizens from the threat.
The book starts slowly but I did not mind because we take time to discover the universe and the characters. Then it speeds up fast and the action take fully over. I enjoyed the book but when the intrigue switches to the past of Bezaleel, the most powerful Rev’ers, I started to completely click. I loved the description of his world and society, understand who he is.
I got very fond of Mirai and Mafuyu and I loved the bond the developed but I thought their relationship was a bit too fast, it did not seem very realistic. The intrigue is packed with action, fights, reminding me of Japanese animes.
I did not particularly enjoyed the writing but it was fine (But I cannot really review the writing style as I don’t often read in English). I did not like the titles of the chapters which is funny because I usually don’t pay attention to this.
To sum up: a very good urban fantasy story packed with action that takes place in an interesting universe with great characters.
